Doncaster
Welcome to Aimhigher Doncaster
What is Aimhigher?
Aimhigher is a national programme funded by the government that aims to widen participation in Higher Education by raising the aspirations and developing the abilities of young people from families and communities from the most deprived areas who have little or no family history of going to university.
Aimhigher encompasses a wide range of activities to engage and motivate students and young people, who have the potential to enter higher education but are underachieving, undecided or lacking in confidence.
The Government has set a target that by the year 2010, 50 per cent of those aged between 18 and 30 should have the opportunity to benefit from higher education, consequently, Aimhigher seeks to help the government meet this target.
Priorities for Doncaster are to:-
• Raise aspiration 14-19 for progression to FE, HE and higher-level vocational training.
• Raise levels of attainment at KS4 to allow more learners to progress to L3 and beyond.
• Provide information, advice and guidance to all learners to support their progression decisions.
• Increase numbers progressing to L3 in schools, colleges and work based training.
• Increase the percentage of the cohort entering higher education by 19.
• Broaden the curriculum and develop quality collaborative provision to enable more learners to progress along their chosen route.
• To embed the principles of Aimhigher in schools and colleges, through their improvement plans.
