Sure Start
What is SureStart?
Sure Start is a government programme which aims to achieve better outcomes for children, parents and communities by:
- increasing the availability of childcare for all children
- improving health and emotional development for young children
- supporting parents as parents and in their aspirations towards employment.
It brings together early education, childcare, health and family support. Sure Start covers a wide range of programmes both universal and those targeted on particular local areas or disadvantaged groups within England.
The Early Years, Extended Schools and Special Needs Group, within the Department for Children, Schools and Families, is responsible for delivering Sure Start.
