What we do
What we do
We work with our partner institutions to support a range of sessions to enhance or enrich the curriculum and to inspire students in their studies and in a particular subject. These may be delivered to students in their institution (school, college etc) or at a local university/college. Click on the headings below to find out more about the various activities wed support.
‘Aimhigher is developing as a programme that offers a coherent, sequential and progressive series of activities as part of a learner’s personalised curriculum’ (Good practice: Guidance for Aimhigher partnerships 2008-11, February 2008)

Visits to universities or colleges. Programmes vary, usually offering a combination of tasters, tours, HE awareness sessions and a chance to meet undergraduates.

We support a variety of mentoring projects across the partnership for targeted groups of students. These include peer mentoring, 'mentoring for progression' and e-mentoring.

Study Skills and Motivational Sessions

We support a number of activities which are designed to enhance students’ study skills, confidence and motivation. These are delivered by Aimhigher Officers, external consultants and our university and college partners.

A hi-tech truck which visits schools or colleges. The idea behind the roadshow is to take young people out of the classroom environment and inspire them with an informative, fast-paced presentation given by someone from a similar background to them.

There are a number of different initiatives and opportunities whereby college students and university undergraduates are working with younger students to raise aspirations and progression to HE.
Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)

We work with students in a number of different ways in order to provide information, advice and guidance in connection with their future learning and work/careers.

Summer schools give students a real experience of university life. Aimhigher Summer Schools in the South East are for students in years 10, 11, 12 and students in FE and are held at 13 universities across the South East. There are also additional summer schools at universities in the MKOB area.

Workshops and conferences organised to raise awareness of developments in higher education and Aimhigher amongst partner staff.

Aimhigher Associates are current undergraduates from similar backgrounds to our target students. Associates act as ‘role models’ to young people in schools and colleges with whom they are working to encourage them to continue their studies and training to HE level.
