Have you ever thought about going to college?
College is usually education that you go on to after passing GCSEs at 16, but college can be an option whatever your age or circumstances. Many mature and adult learners study at college, either full-time or part-time, to gain qualifications in a wide range of subjects.
College is a step up towards university and many qualifications that you study at college can help you get places on university degrees. College courses help students to prepare for degree-level study and many college students go on to university and complete undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
college4us will answer many of the questions you have about college. It will help you to work out your options and make decisions which could affect the rest of your life.
- What is college ?
- What will college life be like ?
- How do I get in to college ?
- What will it cost ?
- How can I get help with finances ?
- I have additional needs – who can help me ?
- Where are the colleges in the North-West ?
- What qualifications can I get at college ?
- I have young children – what help is there for childcare ?
- What access and foundation courses are there in the North-West ?
- How can I progress from college to university ?
- Who else can help me ?
College jargon can be confusing, so college4us has a Jargon Buster which helps to clarify what the terms mean.
college4us has been developed by Aimhigher Greater Manchester. Aimhigher Greater Manchester is part of a national initiative funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to increase participation in higher education.
Aimhigher Greater Manchester is a partnership of 7 Higher Education Institutions and 25 Further Education Institutions, as well as Connexions, LSC, and employers organisations. It offers a variety of activities which it hopes will raise awareness and understanding of the range of opportunities in higher education today. We hope that college4us and its sister site – uni4me – will encourage you to find out more about what we have to offer.
