What will it Cost?

This section of college4us provides a guide to the help and support available to you as a student while you continue in education after the age of 16.

If you area a school leaver aged between 16 and 18, you will not have to pay for your college course.

Some students aged 19 and over may also have their fees waived or receive help with them. This is dependent on individual circumstances.

However, there are other costs you will need to bear in mind when you continue learning in Further Education. For example, you will need extra money to spend on things like textbooks, other course materials and equipment, childcare and travel expenses.

Luckily, there is a range of financial help for learners to help pay for these costs.  The main type of support available comes in the form of an Education Maintenance Allowance (known as EMA).

To find out more about EMA and other types of financial support available for learners at college, click on the headings in the side menu on the left-hand side of this page.

In addition, you can also check out the ‘Money to Learn’ website at http://moneytolearn.direct.gov.uk to find out more about financial help for continuing learners.
