Learning Support

What’s learning support ?

Learning support means practical help with your college course. The learning support staff in college understand that everyone is different, and they will work with you to figure out what your support needs are. But just to give you an idea, here are some of the reasons that learners may need additional learning support:

  • literacy or numeracy problems
  • language problems
  • problems with coursework and study skills
  • sight problems
  • hearing problems
  • speech problems
  • a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia,
  • dyspraxia or dyscalculia
  • a physical disability
  • an emotional or behavioural difficulty
  • a learning difficulty
  • mental health issues.

What support will I get ?

When you have talked to the learning support staff about your needs, you could be offered support in a variety of ways. For example:

  • literacy and numeracy support
  • loan of specialist equipment
  • help in using the equipment
  • tutor support, either 1 to 1 or in a small group
  • support in class
  • adapted learning materials
  • special exam arrangements
  • study skills support.
