An Introduction . . .
“Great things have happened since we started our work in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in 2004. By the end of this academic year, around 20,000 of the county’s neediest learners will have had access to Aimhigher-funded programmes.
“Taking part increases a learner’s awareness of their study options, and their aspiration to go on to HE. Aimhigher’s work to date does appear to have yielded real benefits. A recent report suggests that, since 2003, there has been a proportionate increase of around 45% of learners from less well-off Cambridgeshire families going on to HE. This points to a significant and above-average improvement in the future prospects of learners in the county, particularly those from poorer backgrounds.
“This has been made possible by the joint efforts of many very able and committed people: staff in schools and colleges, colleagues from the Local Authorities, HEIs in and out of county, our Area Partnership Committee members and, of course, pupils and their families.
“During the past year, we’ve introduced new ways of identifying those learners most in need of our help and provided more funds with which schools and colleges can work. Our new Aimhigher Progression Framework is now used to plan meaningful and cohesive interventions for our target group.
“Between now and July 2011, we aim to further extend our partnership and to embed the work that we do so that even more people can be supported on their learning journeys. If you have any questions or comments, please contact one of the Aimhigher team – their contact details are on the back cover of this booklet.”
